In the World
Mid-shelf apex predator of the Drowned Spine. A Shelf Leviathan reaches forty to sixty feet in length. Its organs are dense with T2–T3 Essa, concentrated by centuries of deep-sea pressure and proximity to ley-line runoff. The Leviathan Priests have developed complex ritual protocols around carcass access — they claim spiritual jurisdiction and they enforce it. A hunting team that takes a Leviathan without Church authorization will find their next port entry complicated. The creature itself has no awareness of this arrangement.
Traits
Essa Organs
The Shelf Leviathan's organs contain concentrated T2–T3 Essa. When the creature dies, the Essa is available for harvest. A 6-hour processing operation (Forge tools or equivalent, DC 15 INT check) yields 2d6 T2 vials and 1d4 T3 vials from the organ mass.
Deep Pressure
The Leviathan can breathe only underwater. It moves with no sound detectable beyond 30 ft and does not disturb the water surface while swimming at depth.
Resonance Awareness
Thread 6: A Shelf Leviathan within 300 ft of the coordinate anomaly may behave strangely. It will avoid the water column directly above the anomaly and may surface to look at vessels in a way that feels observational rather than predatory.

Multiattack
The Leviathan makes two attacks: one with its Bite and one with its Tail.
Bite
Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 10 ft, one target. Hit: 35 (6d8 + 8) piercing damage. If the target is Large or smaller, it is grappled (escape DC 18) and restrained until the grapple ends.
Tail
Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 15 ft, one target (not currently grappled). Hit: 26 (4d8 + 8) bludgeoning damage. On a hit, the target must succeed on a DC 18 STR save or be pushed 20 ft and knocked prone.
Bioluminescent Pulse (Recharge 5–6)
The Leviathan releases a concentrated bioluminescent burst. All creatures within 30 ft that can see must succeed on a DC 15 CON saving throw or be blinded until the end of their next turn. Additionally, any Essa activation within 30 ft of the Leviathan during the round following this pulse is made with advantage (the pulse temporarily aligns local ley-line resonance).
