CR 7

Large Leviathan — Unaligned

In the World

The bottom-feeders of the Drowned Spine ecosystem. Deepcrawlers are small by Leviathan standards — Large rather than Gargantuan — which means they can navigate the flooded corridors of the pre-Collapse infrastructure that larger Leviathans cannot reach. They are not aggressive by inclination. They eat sediment, carrion, and anything that comes within mandible range while they are feeding. The distinction between "not aggressive" and "not dangerous" is one salvagers learn once. Deepcrawlers are the primary source of Grade T1–T2 Essa vial materials in the Spine. Their Essa organs are small but consistently saturated. The salvaging is straightforward if you can keep the Eel population back while you work.

Traits

Amphibious
The Deepcrawler can breathe both air and water. It takes no penalties for combat in aquatic environments.
Tremorsense (Water)
The Deepcrawler can sense the location of any creature in contact with the same body of water within 60 ft.
Essa Organs
On a killing blow, a harvesting check (DC 14 WIS + Medicine or Nature) can extract 1d4 T1 Glow vials and one T2 Flare vial from the Deepcrawler's Essa organ cluster. The check takes 10 minutes.
Bioluminescent Threat Display
As a bonus action, the Deepcrawler can pulse its bioluminescence. Creatures within 20 ft must succeed on a DC 14 WIS save or be frightened of the Deepcrawler until the end of their next turn.

Actions

Multiattack
The Deepcrawler makes two Mandible attacks.
Mandibles
Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 10 ft, one target. Hit: 18 (3d8 + 5) piercing damage. The target is grappled (escape DC 16) if it is Large or smaller. The Deepcrawler can have up to two creatures grappled simultaneously.
Crushing Grip
One creature grappled by the Deepcrawler must succeed on a DC 16 STR save or take 21 (6d6) bludgeoning damage (half on success).
