Beast

Glassback Crawler

CR 3

Large Beast — Unaligned

In the World

A pack hunter native to the ruined outskirts of the Blackglass Wastes — rocky terrain at the Wall's base where the glass gives way to shattered stone. The Glassback's carapace is composed of fused blackglass shards that grew into the creature's natural armor over generations of living on the glass plains. This makes it highly resistant to cutting weapons and prone to spectacular fragmentation when struck hard enough. The Corsair Compact harvests Glassback carapace plates as trade goods. Wastes scavengers call them 'glass dogs' and treat them as a predictable medium-tier threat — dangerous in packs, manageable alone.

Traits

Pack Tactics
The Glassback Crawler has advantage on attack rolls against a creature if at least one of the Crawler's allies is adjacent to that creature and the ally is not incapacitated.
Carapace Shatter
When the Glassback Crawler takes 20 or more bludgeoning damage in a single hit, it must make a DC 12 CON saving throw. On failure, its AC drops by 2 and every creature within 5 ft takes 7 (2d6) slashing damage from flying shards. This can occur multiple times; the creature dies if its AC drops to 8 or lower from this effect.

Actions

Multiattack
The Glassback Crawler makes one Bite attack and one Claw attack.
Bite
Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft, one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) piercing damage.
Claw
Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft, one target. Hit: 8 (2d4 + 3) slashing damage. If the target is Medium or smaller, it is grappled (escape DC 13).
